A Long Day and a Copper Crown

Dear Readers,

Today felt like one of those long, quiet storms of a day—not chaotic, but heavy in its own way. Nothing wild happened, yet the hours seemed to stretch endlessly. Work was filled with back-to-back meetings, one flowing right into the next. The first was with all the location managers, myself, the general manager, and our district manager. The next was with the franchise owner, district manager, and GM. And finally, I had a one-on-one with my district manager.

For those who might not know, I’m the Assistant General Manager, and while I’ll admit that lately I’ve only been giving about fifty percent of my usual energy, I still feel that I’ve been performing well. Today proved that even at half speed, I’m still standing strong.

As for the pool—yesterday, we had to shut it down due to high chlorine levels. When I called today, I was told everything had been fixed, that there was “no real issue.” But after years of working with pools, I knew better. When I arrived early, the chlorine reading was down to a 2. I showed the Operations Manager several problem areas that still hadn’t been cleaned, though she insisted the janitors had been in. Somehow, I wasn’t convinced.

Later, I stopped by another one of my locations to drop off candy and treats to one of the instructors who missed our Saturday meeting. It was a simple gesture, but one that felt nice amidst the long workday. Then, just as I was catching my breath, I got a call from the team back at the pool—the instructors were breaking out in rashes again. I rushed back, tested the water, and found the chlorine below 1. So, once again, I made the call to close the pool.

My district manager wasn’t thrilled about it being the second day in a row we had to shut down, but I’ve been documenting everything, and I know my reasons were sound. Safety always comes first.

After that whole ordeal, I made a stop at the grocery store for some simple comfort—a little sushi for dinner and two boxes of honey brown hair dye. Once I got home, I called Bisa and Bitey, and without telling them, I started dyeing my hair. Their reactions were priceless once I finally revealed it. Bisa joked last night that I’m his weakness and that he can’t be around me anymore—a playful Teen Wolf reference that still makes me giggle.

Then came the real laugh of the night—when the dye developed, my hair turned out a rich copper shade. I told them I was a “copper head” now, which led to a whole round of teasing. Bisa isn’t exactly a fan of “wild” hair colors, so I joked, “Are you going to leave me now?” He and Bitey started bickering again, and in the middle of it all, Bisa said, “Watch Monique write this in her blog.”

Well… here we are, Bisa. You were right.

And the funniest part? A while back, I had a dream where Bisa left me for a redhead. Tonight, he laughed and said, “It’s come full circle—you’re technically a redhead now.”

So perhaps it has come full circle—just another day of long hours, chlorine checks, laughter, and a touch of copper-colored chaos.

With love,
Monique
