Book Review: A Promise of Torment by Mallory Fox

Dear Readers,

If I thought I was prepared for what Mallory Fox would deliver in A Promise of Torment, I was completely wrong. This third installment in the Viola series took everything I thought I knew about these characters and tore it open in the most breathtaking, brutal way.

Mallory has a gift — one that blends pain and beauty so seamlessly that you can’t tell where one ends and the other begins. A Promise of Torment is darker, sharper, and more emotional than its predecessors. It’s not just a story about survival anymore; it’s about transformation. Viola isn’t the same girl we met in book one — she’s scarred, fierce, and beginning to truly understand her own strength, even when the world continues to test her limits.

What I love most about this book is the way Mallory allows chaos to coexist with vulnerability. The moments of softness, though rare, feel like stolen breaths between storms. Each chapter pulls you deeper, every secret and betrayal tightening around you until you realize you’ve been holding your breath for pages.

I won’t spoil the ending, but I will say this — it left me speechless. My jaw literally dropped. It’s shocking, emotional, and absolutely gutting in the best possible way. It’s one of those endings that leaves you both desperate and terrified for what comes next.

If you’ve followed Viola’s journey so far, A Promise of Torment will grip you from the very first page and refuse to let go. It’s dark, it’s messy, it’s beautifully written — and it’s exactly why Mallory Fox continues to have me completely addicted to her storytelling.

With love,
Monique
